The Philippines is one of the most open countries when it comes to finding alternative and greener sources of energy. The country targets to triple its renewable energy-based installed capacity from 5,439 MW in 2010 to 15,234 MW by 2030. Installation targets just for biomass and solar alone are 315 MW and 285 MW, respectively, by 2030. Its Renewable Energy Law provides for a feed-in-tariff (FiT) system, which guarantees payment on a fixed rate per kilowatt hour for electricity generated from these RE technologies. This is based on renewable portfolio standard (RPS) which requires power suppliers to source an agreed portion of their energy supply from eligible RE technologies namely wind, solar, run-of-river hydroelectric, biomass and hybrid systems.
